With 30 years of development experience in both healthcare and academia, Susan Toner is recognized nationally in the philanthropic community as a seasoned professional with an in-depth knowledge of capital campaign strategy and implementation, board development, and comprehensive development program design and management.

Susan has demonstrated extraordinary skills in major donor relationship building. She has developed meaningful grateful patient programs, annual giving programs, and most important, understands how to build a culture of philanthropy within the organizations she has served. She has a proven ability to work collaboratively, building partnerships with volunteers and senior management to enhance philanthropic support and achieve outstanding financial outcomes.

Most recently, Susan served as Vice President of Development for Baystate Health and as Executive Director of Baystate Health Foundation in Springfield, MA. She led a $23 million capital campaign, the largest ever conducted in the region, in support of the new hospital expansion at Baystate Medical Center. Under Susan’s leadership, Baystate Health Foundation increased annual fund donations for the past three consecutive years and raised an average of $5 million per year through annual fund initiatives.

Before she joined Baystate Health, Susan served as Executive Director for the Providence Community Health Foundation and as a senior leader for Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, Oregon (part of Providence Health and Services, the fourth largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the country). She was an adjunct instructor in non-profit management at Southern Oregon University. Susan also served for eight years in advancement, capital campaign and development positions of increasing responsibility at Idaho State University. She is a frequent speaker at national conferences. Susan holds a Bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University.
